Austin Wizard World Comic Con

Yesterday Joe Madureira was a featured guest at the Wizard World Comic Con in Austin, Texas. The local newspaper ' Austin Chronicle ' had a small interview I'd like to share. Austin Chronicle: On the game design front, it used to be that the approach was "what will the processors let us get away with?" Now it's "what will the ESRB let us get away with?" From an artistic perspective, how have you found working on video games? Joe Madureira: ESRB hasn't really affected us one way or another. When we started on Darksiders, we made a pact that rather than choose a rating we were shooting for and try to shoe-horn the design, we would do what was best for the game and the 'franchise' and let the rating be whatever it was. We got an 'M' rating, not surprising … but I don't think that's necessarily a huge deal these days. Some of the highest selling games in the last 5 years were slapped with an "M" rating. I think dev

New York Comic Con is here!

The 2010 New York Comic Con is going on as I type this and Joe Madureira will be there all day today and tomorrow doing signings. I've read he has the Red Monika Print, Battle Chasers Hardcover Print and the un-edited Vampirella Print for sale at his booth. There should be a big announcement this weekend on what Joe Madureira will be drawing for Marvel next. During Marvel's CUP 'O JOE [QUESADA] Panel today Brian Bendis hinted that, "two high-profile, awesome artists" are working on crossover events between the Avengers team, saying that they're "significant Avengers shenanigans." Could this be what Joe Madureira is working on? Hopefully we'll find out over the next few days!

Joe Madureira's Vampirella Cover revealed

Over at CBR.com they received the final Vampirella cover by Joe Madureira. The monster on the left looks quite similar to the "Harvester" design from Battle Chasers... coincidence? Enjoy!

Joe Mad to draw a Vampirella #1 variant cover

Joe Madureira is one of four artists contributing to the re-launch of Dynamite's Vampirella with a Dynamic Forces variant cover. He joins J Scott Campbell, Alex Ross, and Jelena Kevic-Djurdjevic. Unfortunately his cover doesn't seem to be finished yet as there are only preview images of the other 3 artists covers. I'll post it as soon as it becomes available. Source: Dynamic Forces

Chicago Comic Con Panel

This past weekend Joe Madureira attended the Chicago Comic Con and spoke in a small panel as well as hanging out in Artist Alley signing a new Red Monika sketch. Over at the JoeMadFan.com message board a lucky few were able to check out the panel and here is what they had to say. For those who couldn't go, I wanted to post some quick things about Joe's appearance at Wizard World Chicago (or the Chicago Comic Con, as they're calling it now). I only went to the show on Saturday, but he had two tables set up in Artist's Alley and was selling prints of a pretty new (?) Red Monika pencil pinup, which was an awesome surprise. I don't have a pic/scan of it yet, but you can find one floating around on ebay. During his Q&A panel, Joe mentioned Darksiders 2 and let slip that he's close to coming back to comics for a stint with Marvel (to be officially announced in a couple months). He said it'd be a title he's wanted to work on for a while (if I remember corr

New Battle Chasers Collection this November

Over at ign.com they got news from the San Diego Comic Con that Joe Madureira is going to release Battle Chasers issues 1 through 9 in an oversized Hardcover collection. Published by Image the collection will include development sketches, new artwork but no new story content. An interesting bit of information came out of Joe Madureira when IGN asked if there were any plans to continue Battle Chasers from issue 10... "Currently, there are no such plans. I wouldn't have time to draw it, but I have entertained the idea of releasing the book with another creative team on it. I haven't ruled out the possibility, and I'm actually in discussions with some publishers about that very idea. So we will see." I for one would be very excited if Battle Chasers continued even without Joe Mad! as the main artist. I'll leave you with this amazing new Battle Chasers piece by Joe Madureira. **Update** I've found Diamond Publishers price listing for the book... it's quit

Joe Madureira at Toronto Comic Con

***UPDATE** Unfortunately Joe Madureira is not attending the Comic Con.... Wizard 221 hit stands on Wednesday featuring a darksiders cover by Joe Madureira. Unfortunately I can't find Joe Mad's cover anywhere... only the Iron Man 2 movie cover. The interview inside is short and sweet, nothing really new to talk about... However the very last page of the magazine has an advertisement for Toronto Comic Con ... As you can see on the page Joe Madureira is advertised to be a guest! Wizard World Toronto Comic Con runs from March 26-28th and you can get tickets here .

Darksiders Updates

I've had the chance to play Darksiders and I'm really enjoying it so far. The graphics are really sharp and the gameplay is a lot of fun. I hope it does well for Vigil Games first release and that they'll be working on a sequel ASAP. There has been plentiful news on Darksiders today after it's release yesterday... here's the rundown: First it sounds as though Hollywood is interested in bringing Darksiders to theaters as Joe Madureira told VG247,"We've gotten some interest from Hollywood, we've talked about doing a comic series." and Joe added "It's really a THQ thing, but I know they are definitely talking to people and I would be surprised if some of that stuff didn't happen." The movie interest is a no brainer, it usually comes with every major video game release. I would love to see a comic series if Joe Madureira would be the artist behind it. Second, Eurogamer had an hour long fan Question and Answer with Joe Madureira where

Game Informer has just put up a fantastic article on the character development of War. There is a TON of artwork, some not seen before. I highly recommend checking it out. *Thanks to Rene for the link

After 3 years of development Darksiders is officially out on store shelves today. Being a Joe Madureira fan for so many years and witnessing his up and downs in the video game industry with games such as Dragonkind, Exarch, Dungeon Runners and Tabula Rasa it's nice to see him be successful with the release Darksiders. He's poured his heart into this game and has fulfilled his dream of creating a video game from concept to reality. I'm really excited to get my hands on a copy in the next few hours.
